Demographics and Psychographics: blog tasks
1) What information do media companies use to create a demographic profile of their audience?
Demographic classification:
- Age
- Gender
- Education
- Social class
- Race/ethnicity
- Job/profession/earnings
- Home (city/village/countryside)
2) Why are media companies and advertisers increasingly using audience profiling and not just demographics?
Media companies do this because although most people may fit in a demographic, it doesn't mean they have all the same interests. Therefore, they use audience profiling which would find people who are interested in that certain media product.
3) What are the seven different Psychographic groups?
The Aspirer,
the explorer,
the reformer,
the mainstreamer,
the succeeded,
the struggler,
the resigned.
4) Write a brief summary of what each Psychographic group is seeking or motivated by.
The Aspirer, wants luxury brands, on trend. wants status.
The explorer, like to discover new things, wants discovery. The reformer, care about good products and seek self improvement. wants enlightenment.
The mainstreamer, less likely to take risks and trusts trusted brands. wants security.
The succeeder, they believe they deserve the best. wants control.
The struggler, They don't think about consequences, attracted to junk food, alcohol, or gambling. wants escape.
The resigned, old people who don't want to use new products and stay old-fashioned. wants to survive.
5) What psychographic group or groups do YOU belong in? Think about your own interests and lifestyle and explain your decision. Remember, you may fit into two or three different groups!
I believed I belong in the struggler group as I often seek to escape reality, I liked junk food and used to feel really down. However, now as my preferences has been changing, I believe I am an Explorer as i often watch and use newer products for entertainment like Ai and new devices. I tend to find interest in watching or learning old devices as well like old tech and or history (i might fit in with the resigned as i still use old devices??? maybe??)
