Magazines and Music Video assessment learner response: blog tasks

 1) Type up your WWW/EBI feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

www:Very good effort in this assessment. Strong response for Q5 on Arctic Monkeys.   Good, detailed analysis of the Tatler of CSP.
EBI: Check your written English, literacy. Revise Blumber and Katz uses and Gratifications Theory.

2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Write down the mark you achieved for each question:

Q1: 2
Q2: 7
Q3: 4
Q4:2
Q5: 5

3) Look specifically at question 2. Use the indicative content in the mark scheme for question 2 to write three connotations of the design and layout of Tatler.

Sans serif is used to diversify audience as it is the oldest known magazine.
Emma Weymouth has a medium shot and is in the centre of the page which covers the title of the cover a little bit, it shows that she is the main focus and also can be recognised easily for established readers, even if title is partially covered.
Emma Weymouth being the first coloured marchioness can cause a bit of controversy because of her not originally being born in England, this subverts stereotypes as White british are more expected to be the Marchioness.

4) Now look at question 3 - Heat magazine.
Use the indicative content in the mark scheme to write three ways celebrities are represented in Heat magazine.

The title Heat suggests current hot issues, scandals and issues that are problematic.
There are several paparazzi shots which stages them to be negative.
The image of the man and the text about his "double life" sets up a stereotype that men are unfaithful.

5) Look at question 5 - Arctic Monkeys and audience identity. This is a real AQA past question with lots of potential answers given in the mark scheme. Choose three answers that specifically refer to the Arctic Monkeys CSP and write them here.

music videos might represent artists as role models that fans can aspire to be like thus
allowing the audience to gain a sense of identity. The band are represented as ‘everyday
lads’ with typical clothes, costumes, acne. They make eye contact with each other and look
to be having a laugh. The audience might feel they are achievable role models
music videos might include shots of fans and artists interacting, giving the fans another role
model or group to relate to, as they see people like themselves on screen. It is unclear if the
spectators seen at the side are crew members or friends or fans, as they are very relaxed
when watching such an up tempo, frenetic performance. This might represent the laid-back
relationship between the fans and the band
music videos might employ ‘behind the scenes’ footage enabling the fans access to the band
and breaking down the barriers between star and fan. Whilst this video is not the traditional
imagery of the band in dressing rooms or waiting to go on stage, the mise-en-scène of the
garage and basic rehearsal space gives fans a sense of exclusivity and seeing the band in the
raw. It might also be a scenario that they too can identify with as amateur musicians or
followers of new bands who perform in grungy cubs and venues.

6) BLACKPINK - How You Like That didn't come up in this assessment. If this CSP comes up in your end of Year 1 exam, what three things about BLACKPINK and How You Like That could you try to include in your answer?

Songs consists of a lot of visual dances and a lot of scene changes rather than the song itself. Fast changing scenes, 3 or 5 seconds before it changes.
They wear a lot of designed clothes, costumes and makeup, as well as having no choice but to keep shape.
Fans are known as the Blinks.
